Maine Science Festival

The mission of the festival is to stimulate interest in science among the general population, to heighten awareness of the impact of science on everyday life, and to demonstrate the diversity of scientific enterprise in Maine.

Maine has a long history in advancing scientific discovery and development. Indeed, Maine is home of the Stanley Steamer; world-leading wind research; innovative research using wood as a source of sugar, biofuels, composites and nanocellulose; algae sea research; the study of genetics to combat diseases; research into improving water quality and animal feed and pharmaceuticals; and lobster research.

The MSF has brought together Maine’s premier, nationally renowned science organizations for the first time under one roof: Jackson Laboratory, MDI Biological Laboratory, Bigelow Laboratory, multiple departments and divisions of the University of Maine, and the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance (MMSA). Additionally, the MSF has received the commitment of prominent state organizations representing a wide range of scientific research; formal and informal education; and policy areas in science, including the University of New England, Gulf of Maine Research Institute, Eastern Maine Medical Center, Penobscot Theatre Company, and the Maine Discovery Museum.

The Maine Science Festival is a proud member of the Science Festival Alliance.
