The Northeast Section of the Geological Society of America (NEGSA) is hosting an Earth Science Education Session on Sunday March 17th that highlights Teachers’ treatment of the Nature of Science (NOS). It is called:
"T3. Intertwining Earth Science Issues with the Nature of Science,”
What do you do in your classroom that reinforces the NOS concepts that:
Science is empirical and requires evidence
Science is tentative and changes over time
There is a difference between hypotheses, theories, and laws
Scientists often use creativity and imagination to develop scientific ideas
Culture and social interactions can have dramatic effects on the development of scientific ideas
If you have an activity that teaches any of these concepts, NEGSA is looking for teachers at any level to submit abstracts describing these activities and how they pertain to NOS. Multiple abstracts will be chosen for short workshops (less than 1/2 hour) on Sunday at GSA in Portland Maine March 2019. Actually DO your activity with interested participants, or partner up with a colleague to write an abstract if you have two smaller activities that could be demonstrated in a short time.
If you have a great activity and are willing to share it by leading a Sunday (you won’t even need a substitute) workshop, submit your abstract today!
