Seeking Applications

for the

Simulations in Teacher Education (SITE) Conference

Louisville, KY February 19-21, 2019

We are accepting applications through November 4, 2018, to participate in the NSF-funded (#1813476) Simulations in Teacher Education (SITE) Conference, to be held in Louisville, KY, immediately prior to the AACTE conference in the same location.

The working conference is intended to provide opportunities for attendees, who will include teacher educators, researchers, professional development facilitators, policy makers, preservice and inservice teachers, and school district leaders, to share their current research, theoretical models, conceptual views, and use cases regarding the role of simulations (digital and non-digital) in K-12 science and mathematics teacher education. The conference will be organized to promote active collaboration and synthesis across projects, and will be organized towards four major goals:

  • Goal #1: Define how simulations (digital and non-digital) are conceptualized, operationalized, and utilized in K-12 science and mathematics teacher education;

  • Goal #2: Document and determine the challenges and affordances of the varied contexts, audiences, and purposes for which simulations are used in K-12 science and mathematics teacher education and the variety of investigation methods and research questions employed to investigate the use of simulations in these settings;

  • Goal #3: Make explicit the theories of action and conceptual views undergirding the various simulation models being used in K-12 science and mathematics teacher education;

  • Goal #4: Determine implications of the current research and development work in this space and establish an agenda for documenting and studying the use of simulations in K-12 science and mathematics teacher education.

    Prospective attendees can apply here ( by completing a short survey describing their work and/or interest in simulations and their goals for attending the conference. If selected, attendees will be expected to submit a brief paper describing that work by mid-December, to review a set of similar papers and provide commentary by mid-January, and to attend the full conference. Partial travel support is available and will be distributed based on the total financial need across attendees. Projects are encouraged to submit paired applications with a team member where appropriate, especially where doing so would allow a graduate student, teacher collaborator, post-doctoral researcher, or junior scholar to attend.
